Clinical Observation of Surgical Biliary Tract Diseases


Abstract
This report is a review of our experience with 180 cases of surgical biliary tract diseases which under went surgery at Pusan Medical College Hospital during past 8 years from May 1960 to Hay1968.
The sex ratio male to female was 1 : 1.1 average age being 49 years old and oldest was 71 years old and youngest was 40 days old female
The symptoms and signs obtained pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, chilling and fever, jaundice and tenderness. Surgery was performed on confirmation of diagnosis and with proper preoperative preparation. 140 cases (77.7%) were operated within 72 hours after admission
The operative procedures were cholecystectorny 139 (77.2%), choledochostomy 118 (61.6%) and other concommitant operations.
During operation, stones were found in 42(23.3% ) cases. Common bile duct stones were found twice as frequent as stones in gall bladder. The 10 (6.5%) cases of ascariasis and chlornorchis sinensis are etiology of cholecystitis.
The mortality was 6.3%, however 2.2% was due to bile peritonitis.
The complication were wound infection 1.2%, wound disruption 1.1%, residual stones 1.1% and other concommitant complications.
